Biography of Abdullah ibn Salam
Abdullah bin Salam Abdullah bin Salam bin Al-Harith Al-Israeli, then Al-Ansari. He was an ally of theirs from the Banu Qaynuqa. He was a descendant of Yusuf bin Yaqoub, peace be upon him. His name in pre-Islamic times was Al-Husayn, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, called him Abdullah when he converted to Islam. His conversion to Islam occurred when the Prophet ﷺ came to Medina as an immigrant. His two sons: Yusuf and Muhammad, Anas bin Malik, and Zurara bin Awfa narrated from him. Ibrahim bin Muhammad Al-Faqih and others told us of their chain of transmission to Abu Issa. Reported by Ali bin Saeed Al-Kindi, on the authority of my nephew Abdullah bin Salam, who said: When I wanted to kill Othman, peace be upon him, Abdullah bin Salam came and Othman said to him: What brings you? He said: I came in your victory.
He said: Go out to the people and drive them away from me, for you going out is better for me than coming in. Then Abdullah went out to the people and said: O people, my name in pre-Islamic times was (3) so-and-so, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, called me Abdullah, and verses were revealed about me from the Book of Allah. And you were arrogant (4) and it was revealed about me: "Say, Allah is sufficient as a witness between me and you and whoever has knowledge of the Scripture" (5). Indeed, Allah has a sheathed sword (6) [from you], and the angels have passed over you in this country of yours, in which the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, descended. By Allah, if you kill him, by Allah, if you kill him,
