Biography of Abu Dharr al-Ghifari

Abu Dhar al-Ghifari (b) Abu Dhar al-Ghifari. There was a lot of difference in his name; according to another report, Jundub bin Junada, and this is the most correct and accurate of what was said about him. Another report states: Barir bin Abdullah, Burair bin Junada, Barirah bin Ashrqa, Some reports state: Jundub bin Abdullah; in another account, Jundub bin Sakan. The famous one is Jundub ibn Junada ibn Qays ibn Amr ibn Milil ibn Su'ayr ibn Haram ibn Ghaffar. According to another account, Jundub bin Junada bin Sufyan (3) Ibn Ubaid bin Haram bin Ghaffar bin Malil bin Damra bin Bakr bin Abd Manat bin Kinanah bin Khuzaymah bin Mudarika Al-Ghafari. His mother was Ramla (4), the daughter of Al-Waqi'ah, also from the Banu Ghaffar. Abu Dharr was one of the greatest and most distinguished companions of Islam. It is said: He converted to Islam after four days and was the fifth. He then went to the country of his people and resided there, until he came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, in Medina.

Reported by several transmitters, on the authority of Ibn Abbas, who said: When Abu Dharr was informed of the mission of the Prophet ﷺ he said to his brother: Ride to this valley and inform me of the knowledge of this man who claims to be a prophet to whom news comes from heaven, and listen. From his saying, "Then come to me." So the brother went until he came and heard what he had to say. He then returned to Abu Dharr and said to him: I saw him ordering good morals, and words that were not poetry. He said: You did not cure me of what I wanted. So he provided himself with supplies and carried a bag of water for him until he came to Mecca and came to the mosque. He sought the Prophet ﷺ and he did not know him. He was reluctant to ask about him until night overtook him, so he lay down (3) and Ali saw him and knew that he was a stranger.

When he saw him, he followed him, and neither of them asked his friend about anything until morning. Then he carried his skin and took him to the mosque, and that day the Prophet ﷺ did not see him until It was evening, so he returned to his bed, and Ali passed by him and said: What is the time (4) for a man to know his home? So he made him stay (5) and took him with him, neither of them asking the other about anything, until [when] (6) it was the third day he did the same, so he [Ali] made him stay with him (7)] and then said: Will you not tell me what brought you forward? He said: If you give me a promise and a covenant to guide me, I will do so. So he did so, so he informed him. He said: It is true. He is the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. So when I wake up, follow me, for if I see something that I fear for you, I stand up as if I was spilling water, so if I go, follow me until you enter my entrance.

So he did so. They went to stand with him until he reached the Prophet ﷺ and went in with him. He heard what he said and converted to Islam in his place. the Prophet ﷺ said to him: Go back to your people and inform them until my command comes to you. He said: By the One in whose hand is my soul, I will scream it in front of them. So he went out until he came to the mosque and called out at the top of his voice.: I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger. So the people stood up to him and beat him until he lay him down, and Al-Abbas came and fell on him and said: Woe to you! Do you not know that it is from Ghaffar, and that it is the route of your merchants to the Levant? So he saved him from them and then returned the next day for the same time. They beat him and revolted against him, so Al-Abbas attacked him (1).

We narrated the long and famous hadith about his conversion to Islam, but we left it out of fear of length. Abu Dharr died in Al-Rabadha in the year thirty-one or thirty-two. Abdullah Ibn Masoud prayed over him. He then died that year. the Prophet ﷺ said: "Abu Dharr in my nation follows the asceticism of Jesus, son of Mary." Ali said: Abu Dharr attained knowledge that people were incapable of. He then was overwhelmed (2) and did not produce anything from it. Reported by Abu Jaafar, on the authority of Ibn Ishaq, who said: Buraydah ibn Sufyan told me, on the authority of Muhammad ibn Ka'b al-Qurazi, On the authority of Ibn Masoud, he said: When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, walked to Tabuk, the man continued to stay behind. They would say: O Messenger of Allah, so-and-so has left behind. He says: Leave him. If there is good in him, Allah will join him to you. If it is otherwise, Allah will relieve you of him.

Until Another report states: O Messenger of Allah, Abu Dharr has left behind. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, said what he was saying, so (3) she blamed Abu Dharr for his camel. When he slowed down, he took his belongings and placed them on his back. Then he went out and followed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, walking. A Muslim observer looked and said: This man is walking on the road, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, said: Be Abu Dharr. When the people looked at him, they said: O Messenger of Allah, by Allah, he is Abu Dharr. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ, said: "May Allah have mercy on Abu Dharr. He walks alone, dies alone, and will be gathered alone" (4). Then eternity struck him. Abu Dharr marched to Al-Rabdha. In mentioning his death, Abdullah bin Masoud's prayers for him, and those who were with him at his death, and his stay in Al-Rabadha, there are hadiths that we will not mention at length. Abu Dharr was tall and great. Directed by Abu Omar.
