Biography of Abu Hurayra
Abu Hurairah al-Dawsi, the companion of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and the most narrated about him. He is Dousi from Dos bin Adthan bin Abdullah bin Zahran bin Ka'b bin al-Harith bin Ka'b bin Malik bin Nasr bin al-Azd. Khalifa bin Khayyat and Hisham bin Al-Kalbi said: His name is Umair bin Aamir bin Abd Dhi Al-Shara bin Tarif bin Attab bin Abi Saab bin Munabbih bin Saad bin Tha'labah bin Sulaym bin Fahm bin Ghanam bin Dos. His name differed greatly, and there was no difference in another name like it or anything close to it. Another report states: Abdullah bin Amer; according to another report, Barir bin Ashrqa. It is said: Sakīn bin Duma; in another account, Abdullah bin Abd Shams; some reports state instead: Abd Shams; according to another report, Yahya bin Ma'in, and Abu Naim; in another account, Abd Nahm; some reports state instead: Abd Ghanem. Al-Muharrir bin Abi Hurairah said: My father's name: Abd Amr bin Abd Ghanam.
Amr bin Ali Al-Fallas said: The most correct thing is that Some reports state: Amr bin Ghanam's servant. Al-Haitham bin Adi said: His name in pre-Islamic times was: Abdul Shams, and in Islam: Abdullah. Ibn Ishaq said: Some of our companions told me on the authority of Abu Hurairah: My name in pre-Islamic times was: Abd Shams, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, called me: Abd al-Rahman, but I was nicknamed Abu Hurairah because I found a cat and carried it in my sleeve, so I was told: You are Abu Hurairah. According to another account, The Messenger of Allah ﷺ, saw him with a kitten on his sleeve. He said: "O Abu Hurairah.
Reported by " More than one person, on the authority of Abdullah bin Rafi', who said: I said to Abu Hurairah: "Why did you take my name as Abu Hurairah?" He said: Are you not separated from me? I said: Yes, by Allah, I fear you. He said: I was taking care of my family's sheep. I had a small kitten, so I used to put it in a tree at night, and when the day came, I took it with me and played with it, so they treated me as Abu Kitten. He was one of the people of the Suffah. Al-Bukhari said: His name in Islam is Abdullah. Were it not for emulating them, we would have left out these names, as they are like non-existent names and are not useful in defining them. Rather, he is famous by his nickname. Abu Hurairah converted to Islam in the year of Khaybar. He witnessed it with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He then committed to it and persevered in it out of a desire for knowledge, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, prayed for him.
Reported by Ibrahim and others, on the authority of Abu Hurairah, who said: I said: O Messenger of Allah, I hear things from you but I do not remember them? He said: "Spread your cloak," so I spread it. He narrated a lot of hadiths, but I did not forget anything that he told me. Reported by Al-Tirmidhi narrated to us: Ibn Mani', on the authority of Ibn Umar, who said: "You were the most obliging of us to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and we memorized his hadith. Reported by " Abu Al-Faraj bin Abi Raja, on the authority of Al-Araj, who said: I heard Abu Hurairah, peace be upon him, saying: You say that Abu Hurairah talks a lot about The Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and Allah is the promise. I was a poor man serving the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, to fill my stomach. The immigrants were busy clapping in the markets, and the Ansar were busy taking care of their money.
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ, said: "Whoever spreads his garment will never forget anything he heard from me." So I spread my dress until he finished his speech, then I hugged him to me. I have not forgotten anything I heard after. Reported by Omar bin Tabarzad and more than one person, on the authority of Abu Hurairah, who said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, said: "If a man returns to his brother or visits him, Allah, said: You have done well. May your walk be blessed, and you will attain a position in Paradise." Al-Bukhari said: More than eight hundred men, both companions and followers, narrated on the authority of Abu Hurairah. Among the companions are: Ibn Abbas, Ibn Omar, Jabir, Anas, and Wathilah ibn Al-Asqa. Omar appointed him to govern Bahrain, then dismissed him. He then wanted him to work, but he refused. He lived in Medina, and that was where his death occurred. The Caliph said: Abu Hurairah died in the year fifty-seven.
Al-Haytham bin Adi said: He died in the year fifty-eight, and Al-Waqidi said: He died in the year fifty-nine. He was seventy-eight years old. Another report states: He died with agate and was carried to Medina, and Al-Walid bin Utbah bin Abi Sufyan prayed over him. He was the governor of Medina for his uncle Muawiyah bin Abi Sufyan.
