Arwa bint Abd al-Muttalib

b: Arwa bint Abd al-Muttalib bin Hashim bin Abd Manaf, the Hashemite Qurayshi, the aunt of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, mentioned by Abu Jaafar among the Companions. He also mentioned her sister Atika bint Abd al-Muttalib. Others disagreed with him, as for Ibn Ishaq and those who agreed with him, they said: None of the aunts of the Prophet ﷺ was safe except Safiyya or Umm al-Zubayr, and others said: Safiyya was safer than the aunts of the Prophet ﷺ. And he narrated. Muhammad bin Ibrahim bin Al-Harith Al-Taymi said: When Talib bin Umair converted to Islam, he went to his mother Arwa bint Abdul Muttalib and said to her: She has converted to Islam and followed Muhammad. He mentioned the hadith, and said to her: What prevents you from converting to Islam and following him, as your brother Hamza has converted to Islam? She said: See what my sisters do, and then I will be like them.

He said: So I said: I ask you by Allah not to come to him and greet him and believe him, and bear witness that there is no god but Allah. She said: I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Then she was after supporting the Prophet ﷺ and helping him with her tongue, and exhorting her son to support him and do his bidding. Abu Omar brought her out. And none of his aunts were true to Islam except Safiyya. Ibn Mandah and Abu Nu`aym mentioned it in the translation of Atika, but they did not mention it in a single translation.
