Biography of 'Atikah bint Zayd

Atika bint Zaid bin Amr bin Nufayl Al-Qurayshi Al-Adawiyya traces her lineage to her brother Saeed bin Zaid. She is the cousin of Omar bin Al-Khattab, and their lineages converge at Nufayl. She was one of the women who migrated to Medina. She was the wife of Abdullah bin Abi Bakr Al-Siddiq. She was a beautiful beauty. He loved her with intense love until she conquered him and distracted him from his battles and other things, so his father ordered him to divorce her, so he said: They say he divorced her. And its place remained... dwelling in the longing of the soul, dreams of a sleeper, and if I separated from the people of a household, I had brought them together... On a greater age than me for one of the great things. He saw me and my family like calves going...

to her abode before the tax collector, so his father insisted on him until he divorced her, so his soul followed her, so Abu Bakr heard him one day saying: I will support you, I will not forget you as long as a light rises... and my moon has not lamented the encircled doves. My heart will help you every day and night... To you is what souls hide. I will not see someone like me. He divorced someone like her today... and there is no like her in anything other than her divorce. She had great character, opinion and position... and he was created equal in modesty and honesty. His father and his command differed from him, so he took her back. Then Abdullah Al-Taif witnessed with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He was shot by an arrow and died from it in Medina. Atika said, lamenting: I was blessed with the best of people after their Prophet... and after Abu Bakr. He was not short, so I wish my eyes would not cease to be sad...

for you and my skin would not cease to be dusted. May Allah bless the eyes of those who saw it. A boy like him... more hateful, hotter in agitation, and more patient when the teeth started on him, he would fight them... to death until the spear left red. So Zaid ibn al-Khattab married her; according to another report, He did not marry her. He was killed on her behalf on the Day of Al-Yamamah as a martyr. So Umar ibn al-Khattab married her in the year twelve. He felt sorry for her, so he called a crowd, including Ali ibn Abi Talib, and said: O Commander of the Faithful, let me speak to Atika. He said: Do so, so he took the door beside me and said: O Adiya, where is her soul? Your saying: I wish my eyes would never cease to be sad for you and my skin would never cease to be covered with dust. I cried. Then Omar said: What called you to this, O Abu Al-Hassan?

All women do this, so he said: Allah Almighty said: "O you who have believed, why do you say what you do not do? It is most abhorrent to Allah that you say what you do not do." So Omar was killed about her. She said, eulogizing him: "Ain" Judy with dust and wailing... Do not dictate to the Imam. Say to the people of hardship and misery, "Die"... He was made to drink of the cup of people's drink. Then Al-Zubair ibn Al-Awwam married her. He was killed for her, and his wealth said: Ibn Jarmuz betrayed a knight with zeal... On the day of the meeting, he was not hostile to Amr. If I had alerted him, I would have found him... Not reckless. The thrill of the heavens or your hands. An ocean he had waded through. He was not dissuaded... from her by your cruiser, O Ibn Faqa. Your mother will be ruined for you if you mutate with something like him... Whoever goes, who will go and take a ransom? By Allah, your Lord, if you kill a Muslim...

then the punishment for intentionally being committed will befall you. Then Ali bin Abi Talib proposed to her. She said: O Commander of the Faithful, you are the rest of the people and the master of the Muslims. I seek death with you. So he did not marry her. She was attending the congregational prayer in the mosque. When Omar proposed to her, she stipulated that he should not prevent her from the mosque or hit her, so he answered her.
