Dumad ibn Thalabah

Dimad bin Tha'labah Dimad bin Tha'labah al-Azdi, from Azd Shannu'a. He was a friend of the Prophet ﷺ in pre-Islamic times. He was a man who practiced medicine, performed ruqyah, and sought knowledge. He converted to Islam at the beginning of Islam, said Abu Omar. Ibn Mandah and Abu Nu'aym said: Dimad bin Tha'labah al-Azdi, from Azd. Shanu'a, and Ibn Mandah added: Another report gives the name Dammam. They all narrated the hadith of Ibn Abbas that Abu Al-Faraj Yahya bin Mahmoud Al-Thaqafi and Abu Yasser Ibn Abi Hibba told us with their chain of transmission to Muslim bin Al-Hajjaj. Reported by Ishaq bin Ibrahim, on the authority of Ibn Abbas, who said: A bandage came to Mecca. It was of the worst kind. He was performing ruqyah against this wind, so he heard fools from the people of Mecca saying: Muhammad is crazy. He said: If I saw this man, perhaps Allah would heal him at my hands.

So he met him and said: O Muhammad, I have achieved ruqyah from this wind, and Allah heals whomever He wishes at my hands. Is it yours? the Prophet ﷺ said: [Indeed] Praise be to Allah. We praise Him and seek His help. Whoever Allah guides, there is no one who leads him astray, and whoever He leads astray, there is no guide. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, alone with no partner, and that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger, as for what follows. Then he said: Repeat these words to me. So the Prophet ﷺ repeated them three times, and said: By Allah, I have heard the words of the priests, I have heard the words of the magicians. I have heard the words of the poets, but I have never heard words like these. By Allah, I have reached Na'us (1) the sea, so extend your hand and I pledge allegiance to you on Islam.

So the Prophet ﷺ extended his hand and pledged allegiance to him.
