Hanzal ibn Dirar ibn al-Husayn reached the Jahiliyyah; Humayd al-Himyari narrated on his authority. 2319 - It was narrated to us, on the authority of al-Husayn ibn Ja'far al-Zayyat, he said: 'Ali ibn Sa'id al-Razi narrated to us; Bishr ibn Mu'adh narrated to us; 'Uthman ibn 'Abd al-Hamid ibn Lahiq narrated to us, on the authority of Muhammad ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Abi Ya'qub, on the authority of Humayd ibn 'Abd al-Rahman al-Himyari, he said: Hanzal ibn Dirar narrated to me, and he had been one of the Jahiliyyah, then embraced Islam, he said: While I was with one of the kings of the Arabs, he said to me one day: O Hanzal, draw near to me so that I may test you and find you clear of base traits, and I will speak to you and you will speak to me. None has built of clay, nor inhabited the cities of mankind, but has wished that he were in my place; yet by Allah, I would wish that I were a slave of a mutilated Abyssinian slave, and that I might escape from the evil of the Day of Resurrection."
