Biography of Khalid ibn Sa'id ibn al-'As
Khaled bin Saeed bin Al-Aas bin Umayyah Ibn Abd Shams bin Abd Manaf bin Qusay Al-Qurashi Al-Umayyad. his kunya was Abu Saeed, his mother is Umm Khaled bin Hubab bin Abd Yalil bin Nashab bin Ghairah, from Thaqif. He converted to Islam in the past. It is said: He converted to Islam after Abu Bakr al-Siddiq, peace be upon him, so he was the third or fourth; according to another report, He was the fifth. Damra bin Rabia said: Khaled's conversion to Islam was with Abu Bakr's conversion to Islam, and Umm Khaled bint Khaled bin Saeed bin Al-Aas said: My father was fifth in Islam. I said: Who do you introduce? She said: Ali bin Abi Talib, Abu Bakr, Zaid bin Haritha, and Saad bin Abi Waqqas. The reason for his conversion to Islam was that he saw in his sleep that he stood on the brink of hellfire, so he mentioned its breadth, which Allah knows best. It was as if his father was pushing him into it.
He saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, holding his loins without falling into it. He was terrified and said: I swear it is a true vision. He met Abu Bakr, peace be upon him, and mentioned that to him. Abu Bakr said to him: I want good for you. Follow the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, for you will follow him into Islam, which will protect you from falling into Hell, while your father is falling into it. He met the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, while he was in Ajyad, and said: O Muhammad, to whom are you calling? He said: "I call to Allah alone, who has no partner, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger, and you abandon what you are upon of worshiping a stone that neither hears nor sees, nor harms nor benefits, and does not know who worships Him and who does not worship Him." Khaled said: I bear witness that there is no god but Allah. I bear witness that you are the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.
the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, was pleased with his conversion to Islam, and Khaled was absent. His father learned of his conversion to Islam, so he sent for him from the rest of his children. They had not converted to Islam. They found him. They brought him to his father, Abu Uhayhah, who was happy. He cursed him, made him cry, and hit him with a stick in his hand until he broke it. On his head, and said: You followed Muhammad while you saw his people disagreeing with him, and the disgrace of their gods, and the disgrace of those who passed by their forefathers. He said: By Allah, I followed him for what he brought. His father got angry and got angry with him, and said: Go, you idiot, wherever you want, and by Allah, I will deny you sustenance. Khaled said: If you prevent me, Allah will provide me with what I can live by.
So he took him out and said to his sons: None of you will speak to him unless I do to him what I did to Khalid. So Khaled went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He stayed with him and lived with him. He was absent from his father in the outskirts of Mecca, until the Muslims went to the land of Abyssinia in the second migration, so he went out with them. His father was harsh on the Muslims. He was dearer than the one in Mecca, so he fell ill. He said: If he relieves me of this illness, then the god of Ibn Abi Kabsha will not be worshiped in Mecca. Then his son Khaled said: Oh Allah, do not raise him. He died during his illness. Khaled migrated to Abyssinia with his wife Umaima bint Khalid Al-Khuza'i, and his son Sa'id bin Khaled was born to him, and his daughter Umm Khaled, whose name is Ummah.
His brother Amr bin Sa'id migrated with him to the land of Abyssinia. They came to the Prophet ﷺ in Khaybar with Ja'far bin Abu Talib was in the two ships, so the Prophet ﷺ spoke to the Muslims, so they contributed to them. He witnessed with the Prophet ﷺ the cause and the conquest of Mecca, Hunaina, Taif, and Tabuk. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ, sent him to administer the alms of Yemen; in another account, for the alms of Madhaj and Sana'a, so the Prophet ﷺ died while he was on it. Khalid, his brothers Amr, and Aban continued their work for which the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, employed them until the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, died. When he died, they returned from their work, and Abu Bakr said to them: Why did you return? No one is more deserving of work than the workers of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Return to your works.
They said: We, the Banu Abi Uhayha, will never work for anyone after the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Khalid was in charge of Yemen, as we mentioned, and Aban was in charge of Bahrain, and Amr was in charge of Taima, Khaybar, and Arab villages, and Khaled and his brother Aban were late in giving the pledge of allegiance to Abu Bakr, peace be upon him. He said to Banu Hashim: You are tall trees with good fruits, and we follow you. So when Banu Hashim pledged allegiance to Abu Bakr, Khalid and Aban pledged allegiance to him. Then Abu Bakr appointed Khalid over an army of Muslims when he sent them to the Levant. He was killed at Marj al-Safar during the caliphate of Abu Bakr, peace be upon him. Another report states: The battle of Marj al-Safar took place in the year fourteen at the beginning of the caliphate of Omar. Some reports state: Rather, he was killed in the Battle of Ajnadayn in the Levant twenty-four years before the death of Abu Bakr
