Biography of Sa'd ibn Ubada

Saad bin Ubadah bin Dulaim bin Haritha bin Abi Huzaimah; according to another report, Haritha bin Hizam bin Huzaima bin Tha'labah bin Tarif bin Al Khazraj bin Sa'ida bin Ka'b bin Al Khazraj Al Ansari Al Sa'idi, nicknamed Abu Thabit; in another account, Abu Qais, and the first is more correct. He was the captain of Banu Sa`idah for all of them. He witnessed Badr for some of them. Neither Ibn Uqba nor Ibn Ishaq mentioned him among the Badrians, but Al-Waqidi, Al-Madaini, and Ibn Al-Kalbi mentioned him among them. He was a noble master. He was the bearer of the banner of the Ansar in all scenes. He was prominent among the Ansar, possessing leadership and sovereignty, recognized by his people. He used to carry to the Prophet ﷺ every day a bowl full of porridge and meat, which went around with him wherever he went.

It is said: There were not in the Aws or in the Khazraj four people who fed each other in one house, except for Qais bin Saad bin Ubadah bin Dulaim. There is good news for him and his family. Reported by Abu Ahmad Abd al-Wahhab ibn Abi Mansour al-Amin, on the authority of Qais bin Saad, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ, visited us in our house and said: "Peace May Allah's mercy be upon you." Secretly, so that peace be upon us, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ departed with him, so Sa'd ordered him to be washed, so he bathed, then handed him a blanket dyed with saffron or...

Wars, so he embraced it, then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ raised his hands, saying: "O Allah, bestow your blessings and mercy upon the family of Saad bin Ubadah." Qais bin Saad was one of the greatest people. He was generous and generous, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, said on the authority of Qais bin Saad bin Ubadah: He is from the house of Jud, and from Saad bin Ubadah and Saad bin Muadh, the news came that the Quraysh heard someone shouting at Abu Qubays at night: "So when Al-Sa'dan greets Muhammad, he becomes Muhammad... in Mecca, not fearing dissent." He said: So the Quraysh thought that he meant Saad bin Zaid Manat bin Tamim, and Saad Hudhaym, from Quda'ah, so they heard the second night saying: O Saad Saad Al-Aws, be you a supporter... And O Saad Saad Al-Khazrajin Al-Ghattar, respond to the one who calls for guidance and wish... On Allah in Paradise is a wish that knows, and indeed the reward of Allah is for the seeker of guidance...

They said: O Messenger of Allah, if you are ordered to do something, do it, and if not, by Allah, we will not give them anything but the sword. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Allah: "I was not commanded to do anything. It is only an opinion that I present to you." They said: O Messenger of Allah, they never coveted that from us during pre-Islamic times, so how about today, when Allah has guided us through you? the Prophet ﷺ was pleased with their statement.

The banner of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, was in the hand of Saad bin Ubadah on the day of the conquest, so he passed it to Abu Sufyan, and Abu Sufyan had converted to Islam, so Saad said to him: Today is the day of the battle, today the prohibition is permissible, today Allah has humiliated the Quraysh, so when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by a battalion of the Ansar, Abu called him Sufyan: O Messenger of Allah, you ordered the killing of your people. Saad claimed that he had fought us, and Othman and Abd al-Rahman bin Awf said: O Messenger of Allah, we do not believe that Saad would have any support among the Quraysh. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "O Abu Sufyan, today is the day of mercy. Today may Allah honor the Quraysh." So he took The Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave the banner to Saad. He gave it to his son Qais.

Another report states: He gave the banner to Al-Zubayr bin Al-Awwam; some reports state instead: He ordered Ali to take the banner and enter Mecca with it. He was very jealous, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ meant this when he said: "Saad is jealous. I am more jealous than Saad, and Allah is more jealous than us, and Allah's jealousy is that you do not fulfill his mahrams." There is a story in this hadith. When the Prophet ﷺ died, he aspired to the caliphate, and sat in the shed of Banu Sa'idah to pledge allegiance to himself, so Abu Bakr and Omar came to him, so the people pledged allegiance to Abu Bakr, but turned away from Saad.

Saad did not pledge allegiance to Abu Bakr or Omar. He walked to the Levant, where he resided in Huran until he died in the year fifteen; according to another report, the year fourteen; in another account, he died in the year eleven. He did not They disagree that he was found dead on his bath, and his body was green. They did not realize his death in the city until they heard someone say from a well. They did not see anyone: We killed the master of the Khazraj... Saad bin Ubadah. We shot him with two arrows... but we did not miss his heart. Ibn Abbas and others narrated from him, from his hadith that the Prophet ﷺ said: "There is no man who learned the Qur'an and then its lineage except that he met Allah while he was a leper, and there is no prince of a tribe but he comes on the Day of Resurrection shackled until justice releases him."
