Biography of Talha brother of Abd al-Malik
(s (=Abu Musa)) Talha, the brother of 'Abd al-Malik.
Sa'id al-Qurashi mentioned him, and reported on the authority of Mu'tamir ibn Sulayman, on the authority of Layth, on the authority of 'Abd al-Malik, on the authority of a brother of his - called: Talha - who said: I came to the Prophet ﷺ and said:
I passed by an assembly of the Jews, and I said: O assembly of the Jews, what excellent people you would be, were it not that you say:
'Uzayr is the son of Allah! They said: O assembly of the Arabs, what excellent people you would be, were it not that you say: Whatever Allah wills and Muhammad wills! So the Prophet ﷺ said: «They have spoken truly; I have forbidden you, so do not do it».
Abu Musa recorded it and said: This is an error; rather it is 'Abd al-Malik ibn 'Umayr, on the authority of Rib'i, on the authority of al-Tufayl ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Sakhbara (1), and it has preceded.
I say: There is no addition for Ibn Manda to make concerning it, for he has already recorded this hadith in the biography of Talha ibn Abi Hadrad, and it has preceded.
