Biography of Ali ibn Abi Talib

Umm Kulthum bint Ali bin Abi Talib. Her mother was Fatima, daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. She was born before the death of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Omar ibn al-Khattab proposed to her to her father, Ali. He said: She is young. So Omar said: Marry her to me, O Abu al-Hasan, for I appreciate her dignity that no one else can. Ali said to him: I am sending her to you, and if you are satisfied with her, then I will marry her to you. So he sent a piece of clothing to her, and said to her: Tell him: This is the package that I told you. She said that to Omar. He said: Tell him: I am satisfied, may Allah be pleased with you. And he put his hand on her. She said: Are you doing this?! If you had not been the Commander of the Faithful, you would have broken your nose. Then she came to her father and told him the news, and said to him: You sent me to a bad sheikh. He said: My daughter, he is your husband.

So Omar came and sat with the immigrants in the kindergarten, where the first immigrants were sitting. He said: Have mercy on me. They said: With what, Commander of the Faithful? He said: I married Umm Kulthum bint Ali. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, say: "Every lineage, lineage, and son-in-law will be cut off on the Day of Resurrection, except my lineage, lineage, and son-in-law." And I had lineage and lineage with him, so I wanted to add a son-in-law to him. Banu Adi, he went out to reconcile among them, but a man of them struck him in the darkness, paralyzing him and knocking him down. He lived for a few days and then he and his mother died, and Abdullah bin Omar, presented by Hassan bin Ali, prayed for them. And when Omar was killed on her behalf, Aoun bin Jaafar married her.

Reported by Abdul Wahhab bin Ali bin Ali Al-Amin, on the authority of Hassan bin Hassan bin Ali bin Abi Talib, who said: When Umm Kulthum bint Ali became estranged from Omar bin al-Khattab, peace be upon him, Hassan and Hussein, her brothers, entered upon her and said to her: You are among those who have known the mistress of Muslim women and the daughter of their mistress, and by Allah, if Ali can marry you, some of them will marry you. His orphans, and if you want to gain a great fortune for yourself, you will achieve it. By Allah, they had not risen until Ali appeared, leaning on his staff. He sat down and thanked Allah and praised Him. He mentioned their status with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and said: You have known your status with me, O children of Fatima. I preferred you over the rest of my children, because of your position with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and your closeness to him.

They said: You are right, may Allah have mercy on you. May Allah reward you well on our behalf. He said: "What daughter, Allah has put your matter in your hand. I would love for you to put it in my hand." She said: "Oh father, I am a woman who desires what women desire. I would love to be affected by what women in this world afflict. I want to look into my own affairs." He said: "No, by Allah, daughter, this is not your opinion. It is only the opinion of these two." Then he got up and said: "By Allah, I will not speak to any of the men or you." So they took hold of his clothes and said: "Sit down." Ubah, by Allah, he has no patience with your emigration. Leave your affairs in his hand. She said: I have done so. He said: I have married you off to Aoun bin Jaafar. He is a boy. He sent four thousand dirhams to her, and entered it upon him. Narrated by Abu Omar.
