Biography of Usayd ibn Hudayr

Usayd, with the hamza also included. He is Usayd ibn Hadhr ibn Samak ibn Atik (3) Ibn Imru' al-Qays ibn Zaid ibn Abd al-Ashhal ibn Jashm ibn al-Harith ibn al-Khazraj ibn Amr ibn Malik ibn al-Aws al-Ansari al-Awsi al-Ashhali. Nickname: Abu Yahya, his son. Yahya; according to another report, Abu Isa; in another account, His nickname was Abu Atik; some reports state instead: Abu Hudair; according to another report, Abu Amr. His father, Hudayr, was a knight of the Aws in their wars with the Khazraj. He had a strong fortress (1) and he was the leader of the Aws at the Battle of Bu'ath, and Usayd converted to Islam before Saad bin Muadh at the hands of Musab bin Umair in Medina, and his conversion to Islam was after the First Pledge of Aqabah; another report places it after the Second Pledge, and Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq, may Allah be pleased with him, honored him and placed no one above him. He said: There is no dispute with him.

His mother is Umm Usayd bint Al-Sakan. He witnessed the second Aqaba (2). He was the captain of Banu Abd al-Ashhal, and there was disagreement regarding his witnessing of Badr. Ibn Ishaq and Ibn al-Kalbi said: He did not witness it, and others said: He witnessed it and witnessed Uhud and the scenes that came after it. He witnessed with Omar the conquest of the Holy House. Ka'b bin Malik, Abu Saeed Al-Khudri, Anas bin Malik, and Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, narrated on his authority. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, brought brotherhood between him and Zaid bin Haritha. He was one of the best people in reciting the Qur'an. He was one of the most rational and wise people. He had a great influence on the pledge of allegiance to Abu Bakr. Anas bin Malik narrated on his authority that the Prophet ﷺ said to the Ansar: You will see a succession after me.

They said: What do you command us, O Messenger of Allah? He said: Be patient until you throw me at the basin. Reported by Abu Muhammad al-Qasim bin Ali bin Hibatullah bin Asakir, on the authority of Usayd bin Hudayr, who said: I recited the night of Surat Al-Baqarah, and my horse was tied, and Yahya, my son, was lying close to me and he was a boy. He said to me: Read, O Abu Yahya. I said: I have read. The horse galloped. He said: Read, Abu Hudair. I said: I have read. So I raised my head and saw the shape of a canopy with lamps in it. He said: Those. The angels approached your voice, and if you read until morning, people would start looking at them. Reported by Abu Mansour bin Makarim bin Ahmed Al-Muaddeb, on the authority of Abu Hurairah, who said: "What a great man is Abu Ubaidah bin Al-Jarrah, what a great man is Moaz bin Jabal, what a good man is Usayd bin Hudayr, what a good man is Moaz bin Amr bin Al-Jamouh." Usayd ibn Hudayr died in Sha`ban in the year twentieth. Omar bin Al-Khattab, carried the bed until he placed it in Al-Baqi', and prayed over it, and made a will to Omar. Omar looked into his will and found four thousand dinars on it, so he sold the fruit of a palm tree for four thousand years and paid off his debt. The three of them took it out.
