Biography of Janadah ibn Jurad

Jandal ibn Gharad al-'Ilani al-Asadi was from the Banu 'Ilan tribe, residing in Basra.

He was narrated from by Ziyad ibn Qurra', a member of the Banu 'Ilan ibn Ja'wa, who said: I came to the Prophet ﷺ with camels I had branded on their noses, so he said: O Jandal, have you not found a bone to brand except their faces? Or do you not know that you are being recompensed? I said, he said: Bring me something that is not branded, so I brought him a she-camel, and a mark was placed on her neck, so he said: Move it, and he continued to say: Move it, until it reached the thigh, so the Prophet ﷺ said: By Allah's blessing, I branded her in her thighs, and she was truthful in her pregnancy, having two foals.

It was narrated by the three (Ibn Manda, Abū Nuʿaym, Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr).

I said: This is how Abu 'Umar attributed it to him, so he said: Al-'Ilani al-Asadi, and I do not know this lineage, for 'Ilan ibn Ja'wa ibn Ma'een was from Ba'halah, so he is 'Ilani Ba'halah, and as for Asdi, perhaps he had a pledge with them, and if not, then he is not from them, and Abu Ahmad al-'Askari mentioned him in Ba'halah, and Allah knows best.

Qurra': With a qaf that is pronounced as a qaf, a ra' that is pronounced as a ra', and two dots under the ya'.
