Definition of Group / Band

Al-Fawj refers to a group of people.

Its plural is afwāj.

The Almighty says: 'When the victory of Allah has come and the conquest, and you see the people entering into the religion of Allah in multitudes' (An-Nasr 1-2).

Each group that enters is a fawj.

Surah An-Naml : 83 Meccan

﴿وَيَوْمَ نَحْشُرُ مِن كُلِّ أُمَّةٍ فَوْجًا مِّمَّن يُكَذِّبُ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا فَهُمْ يُوزَعُونَ﴾

And [warn of] the Day when We will gather from every nation a company of those who deny Our signs, and they will be [driven] in rows

Surah Sad : 59 Meccan

﴿هَٰذَا فَوْجٌ مُّقْتَحِمٌ مَّعَكُمْ لَا مَرْحَبًۢا بِهِمْ إِنَّهُمْ صَالُوا۟ ٱلنَّارِ﴾

[Its inhabitants will say], "This is a company bursting in with you. No welcome for them. Indeed, they will burn in the Fire."

Surah Al-Mulk : 8 Meccan

﴿تَكَادُ تَمَيَّزُ مِنَ ٱلْغَيْظِ كُلَّمَآ أُلْقِىَ فِيهَا فَوْجٌ سَأَلَهُمْ خَزَنَتُهَآ أَلَمْ يَأْتِكُمْ نَذِيرٌ﴾

It almost bursts with rage. Every time a company is thrown into it, its keepers ask them, "Did there not come to you a warner?"

Surah An-Naba : 18 Meccan

﴿يَوْمَ يُنفَخُ فِى ٱلصُّورِ فَتَأْتُونَ أَفْوَاجًا﴾

The Day the Horn is blown and you will come forth in multitudes
