In the classical doctrine of the four schools, the apostate loses the protection attached to his Islam and falls under a specific penal status. The schools differ markedly on its modalities: the summons to repent before any execution, the delay granted, the case of the woman, that of the sorcerer, or of the one who kills by magic.
