Iqta' is the grant by which the imam (the ruler) assigns to an individual a piece of land or a defined right of use. An institution examined in detail by the jurists of the four schools, it covers the validity of the grant, its types, its limit, the regime of mines and of developed lands, the leasing of the grant, and public spaces.
