Al-al-tmas according to Kitab at-Ta'rifat (Al-Jurjani)

It is the request made with equality of rank between the one commanding and the one commanded.

Al-al-tmas according to Dustur al-'Ulama (Al-Ahmadnagari)

The request made with equality between the commander and the commanded in rank; and it is known by common usage that it is the request made by the lower to the higher in rank. Al-'Allama al-Taftazani said in al-'Arf: it is only used for what occurs with humility, not with equality. In the Ghayat al-hidaya: al-iltimas is the term denoting the request for a thing, in a coined sense, with equality.
