In language: the intensified form of 'inbasata l-ma' inbasatan', meaning to extract it, and whatever becomes manifest after being hidden has been 'inbasata' and 'istanbata'; the jurist 'istanbata' the ruling: he draws it out by his own effort. Allah, exalted be He, said: 'If they had referred it back to the Messenger and to those in authority among them, those among them able to deduce it (yastanbitunahu) would have known it'.
