Al-atfaq according to Maqalid al-'Ulum (As-Suyuti)

Its conformity with divine assistance (at-tawfiq) in happiness and misery.

Al-atfaq according to At-Tawqif (Al-Munawi)

The concordance between human action and the divine decree. It is used for both good and evil: one says "good befell me by coincidence" and "evil befell me by coincidence." Divine assistance (at-tawfiq) is similar, but it is specific to good, as mentioned by ar-Raghib (Al-Mufradat, p. 528).
