Definition Al-ʿaṭan wal-maʿṭin

Al-ʿaṭan wal-maʿṭin according to Al-Kulliyat (Al-Kafawi)

The halting place of camels and their resting ground around the water; plural: a'tan and ma'atin. His saying: 'the protected zone of the well of al-'atan is forty cubits, and of the well of al-nadih sixty,' the annexation was made to distinguish what is drawn by hand at al-'atan from what is drawn by the nadih, that is, the camel.
