Definition Al-bʿd

Al-bʿd according to Kitab at-Ta'rifat (Al-Jurjani)

An extension subsisting in the body, or in itself, according to those who affirm the existence of void, like Plato.

Al-bʿd according to Maqalid al-'Ulum (As-Suyuti)

A sound between two notes: it begins with one note and bends upon another.

Al-bʿd according to Maqalid al-'Ulum (As-Suyuti)

The defilement of contradicting it.

Al-bʿd according to At-Tawqif (Al-Munawi)

An extension subsisting with the body or in itself, according to those who affirm the void, like Plato. Distance (al-bu'd) is the opposite of nearness, and neither has a defined limit; it is a matter of consideration. It is said of the sensible, which is most common, and of the intelligible, as 'they went astray in remote misguidance' (al-Nisa 167); distance is mostly said of perdition, as 'thus did Thamud perish' (Hud 95).
