Al-brzkh according to Kitab at-Ta'rifat (Al-Jurjani)

It is what intervenes between two things; it is used for the world of the image (mithal), meaning the barrier between dense bodies and the world of abstract spirits, that is, this world and the hereafter.

Al-brzkh according to Kitab at-Ta'rifat (Al-Jurjani)

The unifier is the Presence of Unity, the first determination which is the root of all the barzakhs; hence it is named 'the first barzakh, the greatest and the mightiest.'

What intervenes between two things; it is used for the world of the image, meaning the barrier between dense bodies and the world of abstract spirits, that is, this world and the hereafter.

Al-brzkh according to Mu'jam al-Mustalahat al-Fiqhiyya

In language: the barrier and bound between two things. Al-Manawi said: 'in the resurrection it is what stands between a man and reaching the lofty stations; and in the usage of the people of truth: the intermediary world between the world of abstract meanings and material bodies; the acts of worship become embodied with what suits them when they reach it, and it is the (contiguous) imagination; some mentioned it.' And Mirdas said: 'the barzakh is the world of imagination, the world of the image, the world of sesame.' (Al-Qamus al-Muhit, entry 'barzakh', p. 318; al-Tawqif, p. 124).

Al-brzkh according to At-Tawqif (Al-Munawi)

In language: the bound, barrier and limit between two things; and in the resurrection: what stands between a man and reaching the lofty stations.

Al-brzkh according to At-Ta'rifat al-Fiqhiyya (Al-Barkati)

The barrier between two things; it is applied to what lies between this world and the hereafter, from the time of death to the resurrection.
