📖 2 min readKnow that al-bayt (the house) is the name of a single roofed structure having a vestibule prepared for dwelling. Al-manzil (the residence) is the name of what embraces houses, a roofed courtyard and a kitchen. Ad-dar is the name of what embraces houses, residences and an unroofed courtyard. Ad-dar is thus more comprehensive than her two sisters because it embraces them both; yet this pre-eminence does not enter into a purchase with every right, according to the custom of the people of Kufa; as for our custom, it enters into all of that.
The dwelling, in view of the circular enclosure formed by its wall.
That which the wall encircles and which embraces all that is needed: the dwellings of men and beasts, the kitchen, the privy and the like.
﴿قُلْ إِن كَانَتْ لَكُمُ ٱلدَّارُ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةُ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ خَالِصَةًۭ مِّن دُونِ ٱلنَّاسِ فَتَمَنَّوُا۟ ٱلْمَوْتَ إِن كُنتُمْ صَـٰدِقِينَ﴾
« Say, [O Muhammad], "If the home of the Hereafter with Allah is for you alone and not the [other] people, then wish for death, if you should be truthful. »
Surah البقرة : 94
﴿۞ لَهُمْ دَارُ ٱلسَّلَـٰمِ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ ۖ وَهُوَ وَلِيُّهُم بِمَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ﴾
« For them will be the Home of Peace with their Lord. And He will be their protecting friend because of what they used to do. »
Surah الأنعام : 127
﴿قُلْ يَـٰقَوْمِ ٱعْمَلُوا۟ عَلَىٰ مَكَانَتِكُمْ إِنِّى عَامِلٌۭ ۖ فَسَوْفَ تَعْلَمُونَ مَن تَكُونُ لَهُۥ عَـٰقِبَةُ ٱلدَّارِ ۗ إِنَّهُۥ لَا يُفْلِحُ ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ﴾
« Say, "O my people, work according to your position; [for] indeed, I am working. And you are going to know who will have succession in the home. Indeed, the wrongdoers will not succeed. »
Surah الأنعام : 135
﴿فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ ٱلرَّجْفَةُ فَأَصْبَحُوا۟ فِى دَارِهِمْ جَـٰثِمِينَ﴾
« So the earthquake seized them, and they became within their home [corpses] fallen prone. »
Surah الأعراف : 78
﴿فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ ٱلرَّجْفَةُ فَأَصْبَحُوا۟ فِى دَارِهِمْ جَـٰثِمِينَ﴾
« So the earthquake seized them, and they became within their home [corpses] fallen prone. »
Surah الأعراف : 91
﴿وَكَتَبْنَا لَهُۥ فِى ٱلْأَلْوَاحِ مِن كُلِّ شَىْءٍۢ مَّوْعِظَةًۭ وَتَفْصِيلًۭا لِّكُلِّ شَىْءٍۢ فَخُذْهَا بِقُوَّةٍۢ وَأْمُرْ قَوْمَكَ يَأْخُذُوا۟ بِأَحْسَنِهَا ۚ سَأُو۟رِيكُمْ دَارَ ٱلْفَـٰسِقِينَ﴾
« And We wrote for him on the tablets [something] of all things - instruction and explanation for all things, [saying], "Take them with determination and order your people to take the best of it. I will show you the home of the defiantly disobedient." »
