Al-ḥadth according to Kitab at-Ta'rifat (Al-Jurjani)

What is preceded by nonexistence; this is called huduth zamani (temporal origination); origination may also be expressed as need of another, and this is called huduth dhati (essential origination).

Al-ḥadth according to Al-Qamus al-Fiqhi

'Hadatha fulanan': like tahawwada; one says: 'hadatha qalbuhu bi-dhikri llah': he kept his heart occupied with the remembrance of God. 'Haddatha': he spoke, he related; 'haddatha 'an hadith rasul Allah (blessings and peace be upon him)': he transmitted a hadith of the Messenger of God. 'Haddatha fulanan al-hadith, wa-bihi': he informed him of it. Al-hadath: the young in age; plural: ahdath. The novel, blameworthy, unusual affair. In the Law: applied to a legal state subsisting in the body that prevents prayer where there is no license, to the causes by which purity ends, and to the resulting prohibition; when used absolutely it usually means the minor hadath. (Al-Ansari). Among the Ibadis: a state subsisting in the body barring the specific act of worship, such as prayer; it is the mukallaf committing a major sin, or being ritually impure and having washed off the impurity without performing ablution, or without washing, or doing what voids ablution alone, or voids ablution and requires the major ablution, such as intercourse.
