Definition Al-ḥrya

Al-ḥrya according to Kitab at-Ta'rifat (Al-Jurjani)

In the terminology of the people of truth: freeing oneself from the servitude of created beings and severing all attachments and otherness. It has degrees: the freedom of the common people: from the servitude of desires; the freedom of the elite: from the servitude of wills through the annihilation of their will in the will of Allah; and the freedom of the elite of the elite: from the servitude of conventions and traces through their obliteration in the manifestation of the light of lights.

Al-ḥrya according to Maqalid al-'Ulum (As-Suyuti)

Praiseworthy actions and morals that are not enslaved by greed and base motives, and not being under the yoke of servitude to created beings, nor having the authority of contingent beings run over him.
