Definition Al-ḥyaa

Al-ḥyaa according to Kitab at-Ta'rifat (Al-Jurjani)

It is a quality obliging the one qualified by it to know and to have power.

Al-ḥyaa according to Dustur al-'Ulama (Al-Ahmadnagari)

A quality of existence obliging the one qualified by it to know and to have power. And the lower life is what diverts the servant from the hereafter.

Al-ḥyaa according to At-Tawqif (Al-Munawi)

Originally: the spirit, which is what necessitates motion in the one possessed of it; mentioned by al-'Akbari.
