Definition Al-iʿdaʾ

Al-iʿdaʾ according to Mu'jam al-Mustalahat al-Fiqhiyya

The woman sought from the judge (ista'dat) a ruling against her husband: that is, she asked him to avenge her upon him by punishing the wrong he did her; the name of this request is al-'adwa and its verb al-isti'da'.
