Definition Al-jhad

Al-jhad according to Kitab at-Ta'rifat (Al-Jurjani)

It is calling to the true religion.

Al-jhad according to Al-Kulliyat (Al-Kafawi)

Masdar (verbal noun) of "jaahadtal-'aduww" (you strove against the enemy): when you confront him by bearing hardship, or when each of the two exerts his utmost, that is, his capacity, in repelling the other; then in Islam the meaning came to prevail of fighting the disbelievers. Such is (the definition) in al-Maghrib (the lexicographical work).

Al-jhad according to Dustur al-'Ulama (Al-Ahmadnagari)

Calling to the true religion, and fighting over its performance when they deny it and refuse to accept the dhimma (protected status).

Al-jhad according to At-Ta'rifat al-Fiqhiyya (Al-Barkati)

Calling to the religion and fighting the one who does not accept it, literally or by legal judgment, through the payment of the jizya or through reconciliation (truce).

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ وَمَلَٰٓئِكَتَهُۥ يُصَلُّونَ عَلَى ٱلنَّبِىِّ ۚ يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ صَلُّوا۟ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلِّمُوا۟ تَسْلِيمًا

God and His angels shower their blessings on the Prophet. O believers, you should also send your blessings on him, and salute him with a worthy greeting.

Al-Ahzab 33:56
