Definition Al-jazʾ

Al-jazʾ according to Kitab at-Ta'rifat (Al-Jurjani)

With fatha: it is cutting off two feet from the two hemistichs, such as cutting the 'arud and the darb; the verse is then called 'mujazza'' (maimed).

Al-jazʾ according to Kitab at-Ta'rifat (Al-Jurjani)

That of which a thing is composed, it and other than it. Among the scholars of prosody: that by which the verse is cut.

Al-jazʾ according to At-Tawqif (Al-Munawi)

That of which a thing is composed, it and other than it, as Ibn al-Kammal mentioned (al-Ta'rifat p. 78).
