📖 1 min readA poignant grief that diverts man from what he is engaged in and cuts him off from it irresistibly. It is therefore more intense than grief because grief is general. The origin of al-jaza' (impatience) is the cutting of a rope in its middle. Due to the concept of interruption in it, a bend of a valley was called al-jaza'. And due to the interruption of color by its alteration, multicolored beads were called jaz' with a fatha. From this was borrowed their saying: mujazza' meat (marbled) when it has two colors, and a date (al-busra) is called mujazza' when it reaches the halfway point of ripening. And a man seized by jaza' experienced jaza': he is therefore restless and very impatient, his strength having weakened due to ignorance of what befell him and finding no patience.
