Definition Al-lh

Al-lh according to Kitab at-Ta'rifat (Al-Jurjani)

A proper name signifying the true God, signifying inclusively the meanings of all the beautiful Names.

Al-lh according to At-Tawqif (Al-Munawi)

A proper name signifying the true God, signifying inclusively all the beautiful Names.

Al-lh according to At-Ta'rifat al-Fiqhiyya (Al-Barkati)

Blessed and exalted, and magnified His majesty: it is a proper name signifying the true God, signifying inclusively the meanings of all the beautiful Names; the Sayyid said so in At-ta'rifat.

Al-lh according to Al-Qamus al-Fiqhi

A proper name for the God truly worshipped; it is the Greatest Name in the view of many scholars; it is Arabic in the view of the majority of scholars; it has been said: it is Arabicized and its origin is Syriac (laha). Many scholars of fiqh, usul and language said it is a proper name given without derivation; it has been said: rather it is derived. In supplication one says: Allahumma; according to the school of Sibawayh, al-Khalil ibn Ahmad and the other scholars of Basra, it is a combination of ya Allah, the mim replacing the ya; al-Farra' said: its origin is ya Allah, umm bi-khayr (O Allah, mother of good), the vocative particle having been omitted.

Al-lh in the Quran

﴿بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

« In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful. »

Surah الفاتحة : 1

﴿خَتَمَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمْ وَعَلَىٰ سَمْعِهِمْ ۖ وَعَلَىٰٓ أَبْصَـٰرِهِمْ غِشَـٰوَةٌۭ ۖ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ عَظِيمٌۭ

« Allah has set a seal upon their hearts and upon their hearing, and over their vision is a veil. And for them is a great punishment. »

Surah البقرة : 7

﴿وَمِنَ ٱلنَّاسِ مَن يَقُولُ ءَامَنَّا بِٱللَّهِ وَبِٱلْيَوْمِ ٱلْـَٔاخِرِ وَمَا هُم بِمُؤْمِنِينَ

« And of the people are some who say, "We believe in Allah and the Last Day," but they are not believers. »

Surah البقرة : 8

﴿يُخَـٰدِعُونَ ٱللَّهَ وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَمَا يَخْدَعُونَ إِلَّآ أَنفُسَهُمْ وَمَا يَشْعُرُونَ

« They [think to] deceive Allah and those who believe, but they deceive not except themselves and perceive [it] not. »

Surah البقرة : 9

﴿فِى قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٌۭ فَزَادَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ مَرَضًۭا ۖ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌۢ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ يَكْذِبُونَ

« In their hearts is disease, so Allah has increased their disease; and for them is a painful punishment because they [habitually] used to lie. »

Surah البقرة : 10

﴿ٱللَّهُ يَسْتَهْزِئُ بِهِمْ وَيَمُدُّهُمْ فِى طُغْيَـٰنِهِمْ يَعْمَهُونَ

« [But] Allah mocks them and prolongs them in their transgression [while] they wander blindly. »

Surah البقرة : 15
