Definition Al-mʿjza

Al-mʿjza according to Kitab at-Ta'rifat (Al-Jurjani)

A wonder breaking custom, calling to good and felicity, joined with the claim of prophethood, meant to show the truth of him who claims to be a messenger from God.

Al-mʿjza according to Dustur al-'Ulama (Al-Ahmadnagari)

From i'jaz: a matter calling to good and felicity, appearing against custom at the hands of one claiming prophethood, when he defies the deniers so that they cannot bring its like; the challenge is confrontation.

Al-mʿjza according to Maqalid al-'Ulum (As-Suyuti)

An act of God's acts breaking custom, joined with the claim of prophethood, consistent with that claim at the time of challenge, without confrontation.
