Definition Al-muqaablaa

Al-muqaablaa according to Dustur al-'Ulama (Al-Ahmadnagari)

Al-Khatib ad-Dimashqi, the author of at-Talkhis, introduced it under antithesis (at-tibaq), and as-Sakkaki made it a distinct section among semantic embellishments. It consists of bringing two compatible meanings or compatible meanings, then bringing what corresponds to the two compatible meanings or the compatible meanings in order. By compatibility is meant the opposite of opposition, not that they are suitable and similar, for that is not a condition. This bringing together was only named opposition with regard to the number upon which the opposition occurred, such as the opposition of two by two, three by three, and so on.

Al-muqaablaa according to Maqalid al-'Ulum (As-Suyuti)

To bring two compatible meanings, or more, then have those correspond in order.
