Definition Al-marfuwʿ

Al-marfuwʿ according to Dustur al-'Ulama (Al-Ahmadnagari)

Of the hadith: that which goes back to the Prophet - may the prayers and peace of Allah be upon him -, as the narrator says: the Prophet - upon whom be prayer and peace - said such and such, or did such and such, or recited such and such. And the mawquf of it is that which stops at the companions - may Allah the Exalted be pleased with them -. And among the grammarians: that which includes the sign of the subject function, meaning the damma, the waw, and the alif.

Al-marfuwʿ according to Maqalid al-'Ulum (As-Suyuti)

That which is attributed to the Prophet as a saying, deed, or tacit approval, whether it is continuous or discontinuous.
