Definition Al-mshrwṭa al-ʿama

Al-mshrwṭa al-ʿama according to Kitab at-Ta'rifat (Al-Jurjani)

It is that in which it is judged that the predicate necessarily belongs to the subject or is denied from it, on the condition that the essence of the subject is characterized by a description.

Al-mshrwṭa al-ʿama according to Dustur al-'Ulama (Al-Ahmadnagari)

It is the proposition in which it is judged that the predicate necessarily belongs to the subject or is denied from it, on the condition that the essence of the subject is characterized by the description of the subject, meaning that the description of the subject plays a role in the realization of that necessity, such as: every writer necessarily has moving fingers as long as they are a writer. Sometimes al-mashrutah al-ammah refers to the proposition in which it is judged that the predicate necessarily belongs to the subject or is necessarily denied from it at all times when the description is established for the subject. The difference between the two meanings is that the description in the first is a part of the subject, so the necessity of the relation of the predicate, positively or negatively, applies to the totality of the subject's essence and its description. As for the description in the second, it is the circumstance of the necessity and not a part of the subject.

Al-mshrwṭa al-ʿama according to Maqalid al-'Ulum (As-Suyuti)

That in which it is judged that the predicate necessarily belongs to the subject, or is denied from it, on the condition of the subject's description.
