Al-nfs al-naṭqa according to Kitab at-Ta'rifat (Al-Jurjani)

It is the substance immaterial in its essence while being compared to it in its actions, as well as the celestial souls. When the soul finds peace under the divine command and agitation leaves it due to the opposition of desires, it is called the tranquil. If its peace is not complete, yet it agrees with the passionate soul while opposing it, it is called the blaming, because it blames its bearer for shortcomings in the worship of its Master. And if it ceases opposition, yields, and obeys the dictates of desires and the promptings of Satan, it is called the persistent in evil.
