Definition Al-niyaa

Al-niyaa according to Dustur al-'Ulama (Al-Ahmadnagari)

In language, it is intent. It is said: he intended, he intends, an intention, meaning he aimed, aims, an aim. Also in the meaning of the heart turning towards what it sees as conforming to a purpose, whether to bring about a benefit or ward off a harm, immediately or ultimately. And in the Law, it is aiming for obedience and seeking nearness to Allah the Exalted in bringing the act into existence, as is thus in al-Talwih. And he said

Al-niyaa according to Maqalid al-'Ulum (As-Suyuti)

The will directed towards the action seeking the pleasure of Allah and in compliance with His command.
