Definition Al-rdf

Al-rdf according to Maqalid al-'Ulum (As-Suyuti)

Any quiescent alif, ya, or waw that immediately precedes the rawi letter without separation.

Al-rdf according to At-Tawqif (Al-Munawi)

The follower. A woman's radif refers to her buttocks, and al-taraduf (synonymy) means succession (al-Mufradat p. 193).
