📖 2 min readA noun meaning doubt and not a verbal noun, although it may be made a verbal noun from the category of rab yaoribo if it casts into doubt, so its meaning is casting into it. The noble sayyid al-sanad al-sharif al-sharif, may his grave be sanctified, said in his glosses on al-mutawwal regarding his statement: among that which is not correct to judge by due to the multitude of doubters, and that is because al-rayb here is in the meaning of doubt, so the existence of the doubter necessarily implies its existence with certainty, and if it is made a verbal noun for our statement: he made him doubt so he doubted, effort was needed, which is that doubting etc.
Hesitation between two positions of suspicion such that tranquility is prevented on either of them. Its origin is the agitation of the soul and its disturbance, and from this is the rayb of time due to its disturbing calamities and unsettling misfortunes.
