📖 1 min readThey are a people who profess the Torah and act upon Moses' law; they differ from them only in branches of their religion, thus in the Mughni, and in the Mu'jam al-Wasit they differ from them in some creedal points. Al-Ba'li said: "al-Masamira": a tribe of the tribes of the Children of Israel, to whom the Samiri is ascribed. Al-Zajjaj said: they are, in Syria, known as the Samaritans, as Ibn Sidah transmitted; in our time they are called "the Samra", on the pattern of shajara; they are a group of Jews strict in their religion (al-Mu'jam al-Wasit, root samar, 1/465; Mu'jam al-Fiqh al-Hanbali, root samara, 1/452; al-Matla', p. 222).
