Al-ṣifaat al-nfsya according to Dustur al-'Ulama (Al-Ahmadnagari)

There is a disagreement in their definition. Those who believe in states (al-hal), such as Qadi al-Baqillani and his followers, said it is that whose removal is not valid while the essence remains, such as being a substance or an existent, and they are contrasted with the attributive attributes (al-ma'nawiyyah). Al-Jubba'i and his companions from the Mu'tazilites said: it is that by which similarity occurs between two similar things.
