Definition Al-shaaa

Al-shaaa according to Dustur al-'Ulama (Al-Ahmadnagari)

Pertains to sheep, if Allah the Most High wills.

Al-shaaa according to Mu'jam al-Mustalahat al-Fiqhiyya

A single individual among sheep and goats. It applies to both the male and the female among sheep and goats. Its origin is shouha, which is why when it is put into the diminutive form, the letter ha returns, and it is said: shouwayha. The plural is shiyah with a ha, both in pause and in continuous speech. Tahrir at-Tanbih, page 117.

Al-shaaa according to At-Ta'rifat al-Fiqhiyya (Al-Barkati)

A single individual among livestock, which applies to the male and female of sheep and goats. Its origin is shahah. Thus, the sheep/goat (shat) and livestock (ghanam) are more general than that which possesses down and hair. Sheep (dan) are specifically characterized by having down, and goats (maiz) are specifically characterized by having hair.
