Definition Al-shʿyra

Al-shʿyra according to Maqalid al-'Ulum (As-Suyuti)

An oblong swelling appearing on the edge of the eyelid.

Al-shʿyra according to At-Tawqif (Al-Munawi)

The ritual and the sign in the pilgrimage, as well as the sacrificial beast offered to the Sacred House, derived from marking (ish'ar), which means signaling it so that it is known to be a sacrificial offering, or from hair (sha'r) because when it is wounded, some of its hair is removed from the site of the wound.

Al-shʿyra according to At-Ta'rifat al-Fiqhiyya (Al-Barkati)
