Definition Al-shbha

Al-shbha according to Kitab at-Ta'rifat (Al-Jurjani)

What whose being forbidden or lawful is not certain.

Al-shbha according to Dustur al-'Ulama (Al-Ahmadnagari)

What in which one thing is confused with another and obscured, and what whose being forbidden or lawful is not determined, by error or on merit; the second sense is more specific than the first. Ambiguity (ishtibah), confusion (iltibas), and interposition; it is sometimes also used for the adversary's proof; it is said masculine and feminine, for the rule is that feminization not consequent upon masculinization permits both masculinization and feminization; shubha is so, for one does not say 'shubb' then 'shubha'.

Al-shbha according to At-Tawqif (Al-Munawi)

Opinion (zann) mixed with knowledge, as Abu al-Baqa' mentioned.
