Definition Al-shr

Al-shr according to Maqalid al-'Ulum (As-Suyuti)

Excessive wakefulness resulting from dryness and heat that restrict the spirit and compel its outward movement.

Al-shr according to At-Tawqif (Al-Munawi)

The opposite of sleep during the entire night or part of it, while detaching from sciences to the extent that they do not cross the mind. And it has been said (in Mufradat al-Raghib al-Isfahani, p. 246): an error due to heedlessness.
