Strengthening of his cause from within through insight, and from without through force and severity.

Al-tayyd according to At-Tawqif (Al-Munawi)

Derived from al-ayd which means strength, as if he takes it with his hand toward the thing by which he strengthens it, akin to deriving the strength of backing from the back, because the back is the seat of a thing's intrinsic strength, and the hand is the seat of the strength with which one grasps others, according to al-Harali.
