Definition Al-zaaʾid

Al-zaaʾid according to Dustur al-'Ulama (Al-Ahmadnagari)

From zada, yazid, ziyadah. In the terminology of arithmetic specialists, it is what was mentioned regarding the perfect, and that from which subtraction is made in the chapter of algebra and confrontation is called the added or the subtracted is called the deficient. And the meaning of their saying that multiplying the added by its like and the deficient by its like results in two addeds is that what is not included under the exception letter, when multiplied by its like, the product is likewise such, just as if you multiply ten numbers by ten numbers, the product is one hundred, nothing other than one hundred, and when what was included under the exception letter is multiplied by its like, the product is what is not included under it, just as if you multiply things by things, the product is a property. And the meaning of their saying that multiplying the two different ones is deficient is that what was included under the exception letter, when multiplied by what is not included under it, the product is deficient, meaning included under the exception letter, just as if you multiply things by a property or vice versa, the product is except a property. Therefore understand and memorize.
