Ash-shirk according to Al-Qamus al-Fiqhi

The hunter's cord. Singular: sharika. Ash-shirk: the share. In the mighty Revelation: "Say: have you seen your partners, those you invoke besides Allah? Show me what they created of the earth; do they have a share in the heavens? Or did We give them a Book on the basis of a proof? No: the wrongdoers promise each other only delusion" (Fatir 40). : Belief in a plurality of gods: this is the greater shirk. As for the lesser shirk: it is regard for other than Allah alongside Him in some matters, such as ostentation and hypocrisy. In the noble hadith: "Shirk in this community is more hidden than the creeping of an ant on smooth rock": what is meant is ostentation in deed. And as-safa: the smooth stones. : Disbelief. : The worship of idols. Legally: it opposes tawhid. (Ash-Shawkani) Among the Ibadis: it is describing Allah, glorified is He, with an attribute of creation.
