Definition At-tahara

At-tahara according to Kitab at-Ta'rifat (Al-Jurjani)

In language: cleanliness. In the Law: washing specific limbs in a specific manner.

At-tahara according to Al-Kulliyat (Al-Kafawi)

A masdar: tahhara ash-shay' and tahura, opposite of najis; and at-tuhr is the opposite of menstruation; and at-tathir: washing; one says: tahurat: when the blood ceased in her.

At-tahara according to Mu'jam al-Mustalahat al-Fiqhiyya

In language: cleanliness in general, sensible or moral, and purity from filths; one says: tahhara ash-shay' with fatha of the ha and with damm, yatuhharu with damm: tahara in both; and the name: at-tuhr with damm; and tahharahu tathiran, and tahhara bi-l-ma'; "and they are a people who purify themselves": that is, they keep far from filths; and a man tahir al-thiyab: pure. It is a masdar: tahhara yatuhharu with damm of the ha in both; as for tahhara with fatha of the ha, its masdar is tahhara, like hukm hukman. One says: the woman became pure from her menses and the man from his sins, with fatha of the ha, damm and kasra; hence: tahhara ash-shay' with fatha, and tahhara with damm: tahara in both; and His word: "they are a people who purify themselves".
