Definition Diddan

Diddan according to Kitab at-Ta'rifat (Al-Jurjani)

Two existent attributes succeeding one locus, their joining impossible, as black and white. Contraries and contradictories’ difference: contradictories join not and lift not, as inexistence and existence; contraries join not but lift, as black and white.

Diddan according to Dustur al-'Ulama (Al-Ahmadnagari)

Two existent attributes successive one locus, joining impossible, as black and white, extreme distance and difference between or not; their ruling: joining not but lifting. Contraries two types: famous, non-famous, passed under contrast’s opposition.

Diddan according to Maqalid al-'Ulum (As-Suyuti)

What one fills not the other’s place.

Two existent attributes succeeding one locus, joining impossible, as black and white.
